Heritage

The proposals have been developed to respect and conserve the historic relationships between the site, Ascott House its Registered Park and Garden and the earlier Scheduled Monument to the west. The proposals will also create better opportunities to appreciate the significance of these assets.

The proposals seek to enhance awareness of, and accessibility to, the adjacent Scheduled Monument which comprises the remains of the original 16th–17th-century Ascott House, its formal gardens and warren, and improve connections to the Scheduled Monument from Ascott House.

The new development will be sensitively designed to respect the heritage assets in the area, including careful consideration of the position, density and orientation of the new homes with homes set back from both Leighton Road and Well Lane. Additional tree planting throughout the site will reduce the visual impact of the development and help to retain the character and setting of the Scheduled Monument. The landscape proposals take reference from the historic landscape of the site.
